Acupuncture: is one of the oldest medical systems originating over 2500 years ago. It’s a technique that uses the insertion of sterile needles to stimulate specific points on the body, which allows the body to heal itself. In traditional Chinese medicine, TCM, it is believed that energy moves in specific pathways or meridians along the body. This movement can be disrupted when the body is out of balance. Western research has shown acupuncture can increase endorphins, promote the release of biochemicals and affect the flow of blood. It is thought that acupuncture acts on the fascia, or the tissue that surrounds muscles, therefore by using an acupuncture needle to stimulate one part of the body, you can affect a different part of the body. Acupuncture can be used to stimulate trigger points or motor points on muscles. It works to rid pain; promote proper movement and functioning of muscles; reduce muscular adhesions; and promote the restoration of the musculoskeletal system.

Amanda is board certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She received her Masters Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA). Growing up she was always interested in health and wanted to get into the medical profession. Having compassion and being able to help others is what drives her. While in school at NESA, Amanda was able to work at a clinic that specialized in treating patients with PTSD and HIV; many of the patients were low-income or homeless. Giving back to the community is important to Amanda. After graduating NESA, Amanda traveled to Nepal and provided acupuncture and herbal medicine at rural health posts. There she worked with many people suffering from pain, strokes and menstrual issues. Amanda specializes in treating chronic pain, menstrual and fertility issues, digestive disorders and pediatrics.
